Minimum wage 2026 in Bulgaria — amount and what it means
From January 1, 2026, Bulgaria’s minimum wage (MRZ) is:
- €620.20 (1,213 BGN) per month, for full-time work
- 7.31 BGN / €3.74 per hour, based on an 8-hour workday
That’s a 12.6% increase from 2025.
Take-home pay
At a €620.20 gross minimum wage, net pay after social contributions (13.78%) and flat income tax (10%) comes to roughly €481. The exact figure depends on rounding — check with the salary calculator.
Minimum insurable income
The minimum wage also sets the floor for insurable income for most positions. From August 1, 2026, the general minimum insurable income is €620.20, but for many specific job titles (per Bulgaria’s national occupation classification) the minimum is higher — employers need to check the table by industry and role.
Why the minimum wage matters
- A reference point when negotiating pay or a new job offer.
- The base value for minimum insurable income across many positions.
- Also used in calculating certain benefits (e.g. unemployment compensation in some cases).
