Until when are prices shown in both lev and euro?
Mandatory simultaneous display of prices and amounts in both lev and euro has been in effect in Bulgaria from August 8, 2025 through August 8, 2026 — one year before and one year after the euro’s official introduction on January 1, 2026.
Where it applies
Dual display covers:
- Prices for goods and services in shops, restaurants, online retail
- Payslips
- Bank account statements
- Utility bills
- Tills and receipts
Why it’s done this way
The point of the one-year-before/one-year-after window (12 months total on each side) is to let people gradually get used to the new euro prices while still having lev as a reference, and to reduce the risk of confusion or unfair rounding by merchants.
What happens after August 8, 2026
After that date, prices and amounts will be shown in euro only — dual display will no longer be required. That makes now a good time to get comfortable with exact euro figures — use the euro calculator or check your salary in euro already.
